How To Fold A Fitted Sheet

Folding a fitted sheet can be daunting while rolling it up seems much easier and effortless. However, rolling the fitted sheet can cause wrinkles in your sheets and may also take up more storage.

So, to avoid that, let’s know how to fold a fitted sheet. This article comprises an ultimate guide to folding a fitted sheet, along with tips on properly organizing your linen closet.

But before that, remember that some materials are easier to fold than others; for example, a fitted sheet of slinky viscose material can be harder to fold than a sturdy cotton fitted sheet.

How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

Let’s proceed with folding a fitted sheet.

Method 01

  • Hold up the sheets with both hands inside the pockets of the sheets lengthwise, the right side of the sheet towards your body.
  • Clap both the corners together and flip corner-1 over corner-2.
  • Next, feel down the edge towards your body and pick up the upper corner: corner-3 to tuck it under corner-1 and 2.
  • Do the same with corner 4.
  • Now lay down the semi-folded sheet on the bed or a table.
  • Flatten out the shape, straighten the edges neatly, and you’ll find the J shape in the elastic.
  • You may now have a rough shape of a rectangle; fold it in thirds.
  • Fold it thirds again, and done!
  • You might have to fold it in fours for king or queen size.

Method 02

This is the easiest way to fold a fitted sheet.

  • Hold up the sheets with both hands inside the pockets of the sheets lengthwise, the right side of the sheet towards your body.
  • Clap both hands together and flip one corner over the other.
  • Find the other two corner pockets tucked together by feeling down the elastic to the other corners.
  • Place both hands in each corner pocket (now you have 2 pockets in each hand).
  • Lay the semi-folded sheet down on the bed and try to find the U shape in the elastic.
  • Fold it in thirds.
  • Fold it thirds again, and done!

Method 03

This method is the easiest and best way to fold a fitted sheet, which combines method 1 and method 2.

  • Hold up the sheets with both hands inside the pockets of the sheets lengthwise, the right side of the sheet towards your body.
  • Clap both hands together and flip one corner over the other.
  • Find the other two corner pockets tucked together by feeling down the elastic to the other corners.
  • Place both hands in each corner pocket (now you have 2 pockets in each hand), clap both hands and your one hand pockets over the other.
  • Now lay down the semi-folded sheet on the bed or a table and find the J shape in the elastic.
  • Fold it in thirds.
  • Fold it thirds again, and done!

Why Should You Fold Your Fitted Sheets Properly

Sure it’s easy just to leave your fitted sheets in a hot mess; this can save a lot of your time for more urgent tasks in need of your attention. So, why should you fold your fitted sheets properly?

Most people need more storage space in their cupboards or closets. And by folding a fitted sheet, one can double their storage space. Another reason to keep your fitted sheets folded is to save time. Because the amount of time needed to fold a fitted sheet is far less than the amount of time you’ll need to find the sheets in the mess of a closet.

How to Properly Organise Your Linen Closet

The best way to organise your closet is by keeping the everyday items upfront while having seasonal items – such as beach towels on the top or bottom shelves.

But before organising, start by decluttering your closet. Remove all the things that aren’t needed in that closet. Sort out the items by the rule of “the item should be kept where it’s used”, for example, toiletries. And before buying any new boxes or baskets to organise stuff, first, make use of what you already own and try to keep it cost-effective.

Conclusion

Knowing how to fold a fitted sheet is a great skill that can help you save space and prevent your sheets from wrinkling. Try to keep things organised, and coordinate the sets by room or by sheet size, and shelve them together. This method makes finding the linen set you need for a specific space easy and makes you feel more put together.
